"God Bless Tiny Tim" album became a family favourite

My name is Ellen, and I've been a Tiny Tim fan since the age of 6. I am now pushing 40!

Born in 1962, I was six years old or so when my mother picked up the "God Bless Tiny Tim" album. My brothers were ages 3 and newborn.

It fast became a family favourite. Also for our Grandma, who loves the "Never hit your grandma with a shovel.... it makes a bad impression on her mind" bit.

Just this past May my entire family and I were driving through Chicago. In bumper-to-bumper traffic we put on the aforementioned album - and back down memory lane we went, not caring who stared at us all singing along in traffic ("I'm a nut, I'm a nut!")

Why I am writing to you is because I was sitting here doing graphic design on a concert programme (I am an artist) and I was listening to the aforementioned album. In fact, I listened to it twice. The memories of enjoying Tiny Tim's album with my family is one of those childhood connections for me. It's comfortable for me - and brings me back to being a kid in the late 1960's. Being allowed to stay up late and watch "Batman", "Laugh-In" and enjoying the Beatles BEFORE they broke up. We listened to a mixture of classical music, popular music and old standards of my mom's generation.

As I finished the album for the second time, I wondered to myself if there was a website dedicated to his memory. When Tiny Tim died, my mom actually e-mailed us three children to let us know - almost as if we lost a family member. We had.

I was so pleased to find your website. I got to take some time and know a little more about Tiny Tim. Those pictures from the 1950s really blew me away! All the candid pictures of his friends and family were great. And the remarks made by you and others who knew him were very touching - I appreciated you sharing them with those of us who never knew him personally. I forwarded my family the link to your site.

We just knew his wonderful personality, his music, and that wonderful voice. I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that even though he died almost five years ago, my family still enjoys his music. I wish I could have met him sometime to let him know what a staple he has been to our family, but since I cannot, I am letting you know.

Ellen C.
