Check out this rare Tiny Tim Recording

Hi Miss Sue,

My name is Gary Lawrence and I am the leader of a 1920s big band called The Sizzling Syncopators. I just finished perusing the photographs of you and Tiny and found them to be quite interesting. I had the pleasure of knowing Tiny in the mid 1980s when we collaborated on a 45 and a music video (ala MTV) of Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy".

As a musical historian, I always felt strongly that Tiny was an extremely knowledgeable historian like myself. When we finally got the opportunity to meet in 1981 at a club in Hollywood, Florida called Hemmingways, we decided to blend his vocals with my musical arrangement and style. The resultant record was a huge musical success. Unfortunately, it wasn't a commercial success. But getting back to Tiny's musical skills, I had always felt terrible that the people surrounding him were not really interested in an honest attempt at resurrecting the musical styles of the past. For instance, "Tip Toe Through the Tulips" is one of the prettiest songs of the late 20s. The arrangement that was used for the hit record has all the wrong chords in the middle section-but no one cared. The first album contains a beautiful Irving Berlin W.W. I protest song called "Stay Down Here Where You belong", the echo on Tiny's voice is so prominent that you cannot make out the lyrics unless you happen to know the piece, and I could go on and on. Part of my mission was to show Tiny in the musical light that I felt he should be presented in. In "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy", he conjures an Al Jolson style and on the flip side "Feelings", he croons ala Bing Crosby. It's great stuff! Too bad we could never sell it, but that's water under the bridge.  I have a website you might be intrested in looking at, it is www.univox.com/radio/gary.html.

I enjoyed my visit to tinytim.org very much and I wish you good luck with the site.

God bless,
Gary Lawrence
