Tiny Tim Affirms Faith in Christ;
Say's Popularity Is a 'Miracle'
NEW YORK, N.Y. "If it hadn't been for Christ, I wouldn't be here
today." Thus Herbert Khaury, known to the nation as "Tiny Tim,"
replied to interviewer Les Lieber for an article in This Week magazine.
"It's only prayers and Christ's guidance that have steadied me through
many discouraging moments," Tiny Tim said. Pressed to explain his
popularity the long haired singer with the high pitched voice said simply,
"I just don't know. It's just another blessing of the Lord, and I'm very
thankful for it."
Tiny Tim grew his hair in 1954 before it was popular, wore white
makeup and carried a shopping bag as he scurried over New York looking
in vain for work. "I never lost faith," he said. "I never doubted for a
moment, even in the darkest hours that I would be a sensational success
some day."
"I was always listening to Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, Dr. Billy Graham
and Jack Wyrtzen on 'The Word of Life.' I prayed when the lights were
low to Christ and said if I'm supposed to cut my hairwhich, by the way,
I wash and rinse every dayI would do it. I asked Christ to tell me what
to do. I knew that as long as I obeyed His laws I couldn't go wrong."
The singer said Christ told him not to cut his hair and "that's why I
believe my success was a miraclethe biggest miracle that ever happened
in show business."
