Somehow or other Tiny Tim has turned on the teenybopper set in the biggest way. He has made ugliness count for something more than a "Before" ad. His long beak, his piano key-length teeth, and his wayward forelock(not to mention his underwhelming hairdo) have them fainting in the aisles from New York to Soho. Ask just about any of his fans and they will tell you, "Tiny Tim is beautiful!" What is the secret of Tim's success? He's got SOUL, brother. More than the other rock groups-The Beatles, The Lovin' Spoonful, or The Stones. Tiny Tim is his own thing, a whole "new bag." The very sincerity of his ugliness-he doesn't want, or need to be 'tailored' ugly-proclaims to the world that he is himself. So, when a young lovely found out recently that Her Darling was willing to date her, she ran over to his Hollywood pad with a speed close to the speed of light. Unfortunately for our heroine, the date did not turn out exactly as planned-Tiny was gracious, true, but my gracious, how could you possibly expect him to be seen anywhere with his hair in such a state! Fortunately for all concerned, she happened to be a marvel at coiffures and settled for an evening of combing Tim's locks. Her efforts won Tim over and, all things considered, that was what our heroine's goal was in the first place. "He's so sweet," she exclaimed, "how could you not love him!" Asked whether Tim complained about her styling, she replied, "How could anyone so kind and warm say anything mean?" It is true, of course, that Tiny would no more offend a lady than step on his uke. He has said: "Perhaps above all the reasons I sing is because of all the lovely women who with their beauty cause my heart to overflow with joy." If Tim is that much of a romantic at heart, it is no wonder that he does take such pride in his unique appearance-his efforts are obviously for the ladies. We have been informed, for example, that he takes daily anointments with FabergÉ and Maja body creams and Packer's Tar Soap. Even his hit record-"Tiptoe Through The Tulips" -is a very fragrant theme. In fact, his preoccupation with cosmetics is all a part of his desire to remain one of the young. "I really believe I'm 19," he says. And his fans would seem to agree with his humble opinion.
