FBI ARRESTS THE MANAGER OF TINY TIM
Charged with Causing Bond Transportation
New York, Nov. 19(AP)
The Federal Bureau of Investigation today arrested
Joseph Kaufman, whom it identified as the manager of Tiny Tim,
falsetto voiced entertainer, and charged him with causing
$90,000 of stolen New York City bearer bonds to be transported from New York to London.
Kaufman, 40, was released on $25,000 bail at his arraignment before
United States Commissioner Earle N. Bishopp.
Wall Street Burglary
The FBI said the bonds were part of the loot from a
burglary Jan. 24 at the Wall street law firm of Dewey, Ballaniten, Bushby, Palmer and Wood.
That burglary was reported to police but was not
made public immediately.
It was disclosed July 12 in Harrisburg,
Pa., when Robert Bialkin of New York was arraigned on charges of
transporting two of the $5,000 bonds from New York to Lemoyne, Pa.
$140,000 Stolen
At that time, it was stated in Harrisburg
that a total of $140,000 in bearer bonds had
been stolen, that some had been pledged to banks in Fort
Lee and Englewood, N.J., that Scotland yard had recovered
the rest and 13 persons had been arrested in the
British capital in May.
Tiny Tim, whose real name
is Herbert Khaury, plans to marry teenager Vicki Budinger Dec. 18th
on Johnny Carson's Tonight show. Tiny Tim won fame with falsetto renditions of older tunes like
"Tip Toe Thru The Tulips".
